Our Fundraising
Dear Friends,
It is crisp and colorful autumn time, we feel the season shift, sunlight and warmth fall with the leaves, many things move now inside. Great things have been happening at the Land Trust since last autumn, and great things lay ahead. We write to share the fullness of our year, invite you to the events we are planning, and to ask for your support.
The Cold Pond Community Land Trust board and residents appreciate this opportunity to connect with you. We are pleased to report that with the help of our friends and families $53,000 was raised this year to permanently protect 70 acres from future development.THANK YOU! We extend additional thanks to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and the Alstead Area Citizens Trust. These organizations helped CPCLT to secure the first conservation easement on this land.
We are most proud to report that for the first time the Cold Pond Community Land Trust has reached full resident capacity. All seven homesites are leased, and the land will soon be home to 20 residents. Emily Davis and Pete Sotiropoulos live with their two boys in the house built last fall. Sadie MacDougal-Jones and Dan Jones are working tirelessly on their home in an effort to move in with their son Elliot before the new year. Gavin Bendix has become a valuable member of our community. The energy and excitement brought by these residents is immeasurable, reminding us that it is the people connected here that make the dreams for the land grow into realities.
Our aim remains constant despite all the changes. CPCLT is committed to protecting and conserving the land in our care and providing opportunities to work and learn here. Towards these goals we have begun work on our Forest Management Plan as part of the Forest Incentive Program granted by Sullivan Country Cooperative Extension’s EQIP program. With Department of Environmental Services approval we dredged one pond and improved its embankment and spillway. We worked with the Town of Acworth to repair the Class VI road that runs through the Land Trust and initial steps have been taken to prepare the Community Center site and design the building. This growing season we also served 150 delicious Garden Meals to program participants of all ages and abilities from Sullivan and Cheshire counties.
We hope our enthusiasm is contagious and our momentum continues to grow. We have set another $70,000 goal for the coming year in order to conserve more land, expand program offerings and move forward on the Community Center project. We hope you can help.
